If you want to try yourself on Linux applications development or to transfer(port) your existing Windows applications to Linux — you'll find everything you need in Linux XP Desktop. All development tools can be installed from our network applications repository.

Visual applications developent

Eclipse, Lazarus, Kdevelop and other modern IDE are available to you in Linux XP Desktop 2008. These IDEs will help you to develop applications in C, C++, Java, Pascal, PHP, Perl, Python, etc.

Eclipse is an powerfull open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle.

Eclipse is used for:

  • enterprise development
  • embedded and device development
  • rich client platforms
  • applications framework
  • language IDE

There are lots of different plugins made for Eclipse. More information about Eclipse can be found here http://www.eclipse.org/.

Delphi-applications

Beginners and professional developers using Delphi for the development of rich clients applications will find very comfortable IDE Lazarus with Free Pascal compiler.

Free Pascal is a GPL'ed compiler that runs on Linux, Win32 and more. Lazarus is the class libraries for Free Pascal that emulate Delphi. Free Pascal is designed to be able to understand and compile Delphi syntax. Lazarus will allow you to develop Delphi like programs in all of the above platforms.

With Lazarus you can use existing Delphi code if the code is standard Delphi Pascal and it uses the standard components found in Delphi.

The FCL (Free Pascal Component Libraries) and the LCL (which will eventually become part of the FCL) are licensed under a modified LGPL. You can write your own proprietary software that just links to these libraries. You can sell your application without the need to supply or make available your code.
